Snyder residence paint status
Last week I dipped over the Snyder residence, and painted their front porch with Dawn Marie. She was an excellent assistant! Great Job DM!!!
Nicole - VIA at the Southside Works
Recently we worked directly with the new owners of VIA (a women’s boutique), Sharone and Iszik, to help them re-design their new store space. Project overview: helped with the design process, fabricated the counter-top, and hand painted figures on the dressing room walls.
Aspects of the design process included color selection. For the counter-top, we custom created the mix using Buddy Rhodes. It is a custom white color. Along side custom fabrication of counter-tops, we designed and hand painted 3 figures with a metal over-lay, in the dressing rooms.
The images show a softely painted figure that is over-layed with Copper. Sharone made the copper part. For more photos, go to: http://www.flickr.com/photos/enso33/sets/72157619592496182/

On Friday I was at the Concrete Zen workshop with Nicole and Brian. I did some work on the side, while watching and helping them make molds for the Chatham Eden Hall sink project. We had some left over pourable rubber after creating the sink mold. We couldn’t waste it, so I found a rubber latex glove and poured the rest of the rubber into it. We set the glove over the edge of a table to let it set. I haven’t seen it the final results yet, but I’m told the hand turned out “Creepy in an amazing way”. Perfect!
Howe Street Kitchenette Concrete Counter
During a whole house renovation, we fabricated a kitchenette counter-top for the client. The house is on Howe Street in Shadyside Pittsburgh, Pa. The original specifications called for a Corian sage-brush counter-top. The client agreed to the option of fabricating the kitchenette counter-top from concrete. The concrete counter-top mix was color matched with raw pigments by Nicole Santella. The concrete formula consisted of re-claimed marble chips in a Buddy Rhodes Mix. The photos show the shine after polished and the color that complements the rest of the space.
The panel is a LED back-lit light, and the floors are cork. .gallery { margin: auto; } .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } .gallery img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; }
This weeks highlighted project
I helped create custom concrete countertops for Chatham University’s Eden Hall. They were installed by myself, Brian Sieffert, Rich Queen, and Phil Martino. Things went fine, and the sinks and counters look amazing. Great job TEAM!!!! Nikki
Brian Sieffert takes his skills to a new level
Brian Sieffert has continually grown his skill set in the art of decorative concrete fabrication techniques. Being CHENG certified helps guarantee that Concrete Zen’s customers are getting the highest quality (GFRC) concrete creations using the very latest techniques and materials.
Brian Sieffert received Cheng Certification
In January of 2008, Brian Sieffert traveled to Berkeley California to attend Fu-Tung Cheng’s Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) Countertop & Sink training program.
Why use GFRC? Lighter, stronger, seamless concrete countertop projects in one-third the time. CHENG GFRC Countertop + Sink Training provided advanced in-depth instruction on how to build a concrete countertop that will provide the benefits of being lighter at 9 lbs./s.f. (on average) and allow up to 20 l.f. of seamless countertop runs. Time savings is another key benefit for the GFRC method—projects can be de-molded 24 hours after casting.
Another benefit of GFRC…it is much “greener”. The GFRC method requires one-third less material and does not require any steel reinforcement as compared to standard wet cast methods.
Brian received his CHENG certification at the conclusion of this program and is now a highly skilled decorative concrete designer & fabricator.
